1. Assess the Area and Ensure Safety

4. Remove Contaminated Materials

Carefully remove porous materials (e.g., drywall, insulation, carpet) that are extensively damaged by mold. Place materials in sealed plastic bags and properly label them for disposal according to local regulations.

5. Clean Non-Porous Surfaces

Use HEPA vacuums and damp wiping techniques with EPA-approved antimicrobial or mold-removal solutions to clean non-porous surfaces. Repeat cleaning as necessary to ensure all visible mold is eliminated.

6. Dry the Area Thoroughly

Use commercial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to dry the area completely, aiming for a relative humidity level below 50%. Ensure all moisture sources (e.g., leaks) are identified and repaired before proceeding.

7. Post-Remediation Testing

Inspect the area visually to confirm no visible mold remains. Consider air and surface testing for clearance, performed by an independent third party, if necessary or required by the project.

8. Rebuild and Restore

Replace removed materials, such as drywall or insulation, with mold-resistant options. Ensure the area is restored to its pre-damage condition while adhering to building codes and standards.
